Rediscovering Punggol
Did you know that Albert Einstein once visited Punggol in the 1920s, or that some of Singapore’s earliest zoos were found there? Fun facts like these are brought to light at the new Punggol Discovery Cube, a visitor centre in the heart of the town. Through interactive exhibits over three floors, the family-friendly site charts the transformation of the former fishing village into Singapore’s first eco-town. It is the latest in a growing list of attractions in the north-eastern town.

Others include Punggol Town Square, a space for community events, such as concerts and mass workouts, and Watertown, Singapore’s first integrated waterfront residential and retail development. The development is jointly developed by Far East Organization, Frasers Centrepoint Limited and Sekisui House. Its retail and lifestyle hub, Waterway Point, is a one-stop centre for residents, with over 200 tenants including a cineplex, a 24-hour grocery store and major fashion retailers like Uniqlo and H&M, and over 60 F&B outlets.
Apart from the myriad of F&B selections at Waterway Point, the neighbourhood is home to Tebing Lane (near Riviera LRT), an enclave of restaurants and cafés. Eateries here have embraced innovative dining concepts, serving fish and chips, fried chicken and artisanal coffee out of cargo containers. Other cafés along Tebing Lane offer alfresco seating that overlooks the lush greenery of the nearby park connector.
Green spaces aren’t limited to the park connector — Punggol is dotted with spots that provide respite from the bustle of city life. Head for an evening jog at the nearby Punggol Waterway Park — it’s a great place for kids, who will enjoy the water playground.

For a rustic day out, rent a bicycle and head to Coney Island Park. The wide variety of habitats, including coastal forests, grasslands, mangroves and casuarina woodlands are home to an expansive variety of fauna and flora. Besides being an ideal location for birdwatching, the forest and mangrove habitats are great places to explore nature on the newly built boardwalk. It’s a place worth taking the time to explore.
These attractions are linked by Punggol’s LRT system to the precinct’s upcoming Creative Cluster and Learning Corridor. The spaces have been earmarked for innovative new industries and tertiary institutions, such as the centralised campus for the Singapore Institute of Technology.
Sengkang Shines
Another north-eastern town, Sengkang, is also being rejuvenated to offer residents enhanced facilities and lifestyle choices. For example, the revamped Sengkang Public Library has a dedicated tween zone for those aged 10 to 14. It holds weekly programmes related to comics, music and photography. More spaces for adults and children to read have also been created. The library carries more than 100,000 books over two floors and is a short walk from the Sengkang MRT station.
Like their Punggol neighbours, homes in Sengkang are close to nature. At the Sengkang Floating Wetland, the largest man-made floating wetland in Singapore, residents can spot the rare black-browed reed warbler. The migratory bird from north-east Asia is known to stopover at the park.
Sengkang residents also enjoy convenient access to top schools like Nan Chiau High School and medical facilities like a polyclinic and restructured hospital. When completed, the 1,400-bed Sengkang General and Community Hospitals will be one of Singapore's largest regional hospitals.

For shopping and entertainment, residents can head to The Seletar Mall. Greenwich V’s alfresco dining outlets and Jalan Kayu’s popular eateries are also nearby. Upcoming developments include the Sengkang West Industrial Park and the expanded Seletar Aerospace Park. When completed, the latter will bring high-value jobs in the aviation industry closer to residents.
Most of these amenities can be accessed easily using the town’s comprehensive LRT network, which also provides a hassle-free link to the city via the Sengkang MRT station on the North East Line.

Watertown and RiverTrees Residences
Live Here
Watertown, in the heart of Punggol, is a 992-unit residential development. Located above Waterway Point, it offers suites, Small Office, Home Office (SOHO) apartments, sky patios and residences. It also features an array of in-house facilities, including fitness and lifestyle amenities. Watertown’s units are fully sold and received its Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP) in December 2017.
Those looking to live in Sengkang will find a tropical oasis at RiverTrees Residences, which obtained its TOP in May 2017. Fronting the Punggol Reservoir, the development is a joint project by Frasers Centrepoint Limited, Far East Orchard Limited and Sekisui House. RiverTrees Residences offers breathtaking views of the reservoir, both from its units and common spaces, which include a Riverine Promenade, pavilions and spa pools. The promenade will feature lookout decks, a river courtyard and open areas for children to play.
