Gary Carsley

Born 1957, Australia

Gary Carsley is an internationally active artist, curator, cultural commentator, and educator. His practice hybridises established imaging modes such as painting, photography, and drawing, with more recent digital and immersive technologies to create complex, visually rich spatial environments. These immersive installations engage with globalisation and other contemporary political and cultural topics, shaped by his research interests around queer theory, alternative histories, and postcolonial studies. His works are collected by more than 30 museums worldwide, including the National Gallery of Australia and Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
